My wife, Karen, and I will celebrate 25 years of marriage this year. We have 7 children aged 20 to 7 years old. We spent much time in prayer before making the decision for me to run for Sheriff, as this decision will affect our family’s future. No matter the outcome, we believe this is the path God wants us to be on. If elected, my promise is to run the Sheriff’s Office with professionalism, integrity, and in a manner that daily honors God. Our commitment to you is to run a positive, family-oriented campaign. I understand the importance of family, and pledge my all to protect and serve yours!
I am currently an FAA registered Unmanned Aircraft System Pilot ( i.e. a drone pilot). This has allowed me to use our drone to film areas during the recent flooding and provide flight overwatch for our deputies in the field in a situation involving a potentially armed suspect. I have also assisted Muskogee Police in a recent search for a missing subject. The uses for the drone in these types of situations is invaluable.
I was also honored to be asked to represent rural agencies throughout Oklahoma at the First Annual Oklahoma UAS Safety Summit held in Oklahoma City and sponsored by the FAA. I was able to give two presentations over the course of the two day summit. The other presentations were given by the FBI, OHP, and OBNDD. I felt truly honored to get to represent your Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office at this event.
The above picture is a panel consisting of the above mentioned agencies where we answered questions during the two day conference. The fact that the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office was chosen to represent rural agencies throughout the state was such an honor!
As the current Muskogee County Undersheriff, one of my roles is to serve as the PIO. Having served as the PIO for the Muskogee Police Department, I am able to bring years of experience to this role. My time working with the media has shown me that transparency and openness are always the best course of action.
One situation that helped shape my approach to media relations was an event in Muskogee during my service as PIO. It involved the first ever officer involved shooting captured on a body camera. A national online publication (The Daily Beast) in an article by Michael Daly, a Pulitzer Prize nominee, referred to the way the event was handled as having set an example for the entire nation on how to handle officer involved shootings and the media. The method used is also taught at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) under the title the “Muskogee Method” and has been used by numerous agencies throughout the United States. I began my career with the Muskogee County Sheriff's Office after retiring from the Muskogee Police Department in 2016 and then serving with the Tulsa Airport Police until 2018. All together, I have served in law enforcement over 29 years.
I started at the Muskogee County Sheriff's Office as the Chief Deputy before being promoted to the position of Undersheriff this year. Since beginning, I have placed an emphasis on hiring and retaining deputies who have a heart for service. I demand integrity and accountability from myself and all our employees.
Our agency has placed more deputies on the streets and emphasized more training for deputies. Some of that training includes:
* Rural drug enforcement (3 day course).
* Tactical Medic training for all deputies.
* Active shooter response.
* DUI training.
* DRE (Drug Recognition Expert training). This is a highly skilled training course that takes several weeks and multiple practical exercises to become certified.
*Crime Scene school for our Investigations Division.
This agency has partnered with numerous other Muskogee County agencies to provide for our residents. Each deputy now carries an iPad that can immediately place a citizen in need of mental health help in touch, via FaceTime, with a mental health counselor.
We are working with local drug rehabilitation facilities to provide for drug free environments through the use of our K9.
In addition, we are continuing to work on grants to provide you with a well-equipped Sheriff's Office. I am currently in the process of procuring a grant to assist with Covid-19 response.
If elected, under my administration, we will continue to provide the citizens of Muskogee County with a professionally run agency with an eye on cost saving efforts and community partnerships.
I have a strong passion for law enforcement. I have lived in Muskogee County my entire life and spent over half my life in law enforcement service. I love the people of Muskogee County and want to serve you with courage, compassion, and integrity!
I believe you lead by serving others. Since coming to the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office as Chief Deputy, and now as the Undersheriff, I have striven to treat all employees in a fair manner with respect. I encourage and show appreciation to our employees. Law enforcement is a hard enough profession without having more stress put on by your supervisor. My philosophy is simple: come to work, work hard, bring no drama to the workplace, and treat those we serve with professionalism and courtesy. Everyone in this agency from the top down is to work hard daily to serve you. Accountability is not an option, it is a requirement.
People are the most valuable asset of an organization. Treat them like that and the results will amaze you. With this philosophy in mind, you maintain high morale. This in turn motivates our employees to do a better job of serving you. This has and continues to be my philosophy.
As your current Undersheriff, I have firsthand knowledge and experience running the Sheriff's Office. There are many moving parts to this organization, and I will be ready on day one to continue to move this agency forward with an eye on professionalism and SERVING YOU! I am a strong believer in the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights and will make sure your rights that are outlined in that most sacred document are protected. I want you to know that no matter who you are, what your background, or what your status in society, you will be treated fairly and with respect with me as your Sheriff.
My promise to you, if elected, will be to run the Sheriff's Office with integrity, free of outside influence and free of politics. My pledge is to put you, the citizens of Muskogee County, first. My commitment will be to run the Sheriff's Office in a professional manner with principled leadership. As the current Undersheriff, I know it is vitally important to lead a lifestyle that allows me to be ready to serve at any given moment, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
